In a unique mission, the Prince’s Carabiniers have been called upon to support 27-year-old Swiss swimmer Noam Yaron as he attempts a record-breaking swim from Calvi to Monaco. The carabiniers were enlisted after Yaron sought protection from jellyfish, which pose a significant risk during his open water challenge.
Through a mutual connection, Yaron discovered that a carabinier with swimming experience could help design a protective net. Lieutenant-Colonel Martial Pied, head of the Prince’s Carabiniers, confirmed that, with the approval of HSH Prince Albert, carabiniers Jérémy Collin and Thomas Michenet took on the task. They spent nearly 72 hours of their free time building the anti-jellyfish net in the unit’s garage.
The structure, composed of PVC tubes, foam, and protective netting, is designed to be towed by a catamaran ahead of Yaron as he swims. After successful flotation tests in Port Hercule, the net was dismantled for transport to Corsica, where it will be reassembled before Yaron’s swim.
The Rotary Club of Monaco, under the leadership of President Alain Chastanet, has also provided financial support for the project, contributing 5,000 euros with a goal of reaching 7,000 euros. The club’s involvement aligns with both its commitment to environmental protection and Yaron’s own dedication to the cause.
