AS Monaco showcased composure, experience and clinical finishing to secure a 3–1 away victory over US Orléans and book their place in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France on Saturday, January 10, despite playing the entire second half with ten men.
Monaco were under pressure from the outset against an in-form Orléans side backed by a passionate home crowd. The hosts pressed aggressively and created several early chances, but goalkeeper Philipp Köhn delivered a string of crucial saves to keep the score level during a testing opening phase.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half when Folarin Balogun opened the scoring, calmly finishing inside the area after a well-timed assist from Denis Zakaria. The goal gave Monaco a vital edge, but their challenge intensified just before halftime when Stanis Idumbo was shown a red card, forcing the visitors to defend their lead a man down.

Orléans began the second half with renewed energy, pushing Monaco deep and threatening mainly from set pieces. Köhn once again proved decisive as Monaco absorbed sustained pressure with discipline and defensive organisation, limiting clear opportunities despite long spells without possession.

Monaco’s patience paid off late in the match. Substitute George Ilenikhena struck twice on the counterattack, displaying maturity and precision to convert both chances and effectively seal the Coupe de France tie. Orléans managed a stoppage-time goal through Fahd El Khoumisti, but it served only as consolation.

The final whistle confirmed AS Monaco’s qualification after a performance defined by resilience, efficiency and tactical maturity. Reduced to ten men yet firmly in control, Monaco turned a potentially dangerous away fixture into a convincing Coupe de France progression and now return to league action with confidence and momentum firmly on their side.
