ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, the 79-year-old Swedish music icon, has married his partner Christina Sas in a heartwarming ceremony in Copenhagen. The intimate event, held on September 21, 2024, was officiated by comedian and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig, making the day “extra special,” according to Ulvaeus.
The couple, who met in Nuremberg, Germany, in 2021 during the release of ABBA’s final album Voyage, began dating in the spring of 2022. Their union was celebrated in the presence of close family and friends, with photos from the wedding shared on Ulvaeus’ Instagram. One snapshot featured Toksvig, dressed in red robes, standing beside Ulvaeus in a sharp suit and Sas in an elegant green wrap dress.
Sandi Toksvig, known for her role on the BBC show QI, has been a close friend of Ulvaeus since their collaboration on Mamma Mia: The Party! in 2018. Toksvig’s role as the officiant added a personal touch to the ceremony.
The wedding is a new chapter for Ulvaeus, who has been married twice before. His first marriage was to ABBA bandmate Agnetha Fältskog in 1971, with whom he shares two children, Linda and Peter. After their divorce in 1980, Ulvaeus married Lena Kallersjo in 1981, and the couple parted ways in 2022.
Ulvaeus’ wedding comes during a significant year for ABBA, as the legendary group celebrated 50 years since winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with their hit Waterloo. Though the original quartet—comprised of Ulvaeus, Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad—did not reunite to perform at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, their legacy remains stronger than ever.
Fans and friends, including broadcaster Gyles Brandreth, celebrated the couple’s joy. Brandreth, who met Ulvaeus and Sas for his Rosebud podcast, posted about the wedding on Instagram, praising the couple and calling the ceremony “beautiful.”
Ulvaeus’ joyful announcement adds another milestone to a life filled with music, love, and cherished memories.
