Since the commencement of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Friday, July 26, the Directorate of Platforms and Digital Resources (DPRN), part of the Interministerial Delegation for Digital Transition, has played a crucial role in managing and controlling the radio frequency spectrum across all Olympic sites in France. This effort is in collaboration with the National Frequency Agency.
Frédéric Rué and Hubert Phan from the DPRN have been stationed at the ‘Test & Tagging’ office at Allianz Riviera in Nice, ensuring the seamless operation of this essential service.
Managing the radio frequency spectrum during major events like the Olympics presents significant challenges. Host countries must handle the intense frequency usage by organizers, security personnel, and media. The DPRN has extensive experience in this area, having established large-scale operational systems for major events in Monaco such as the Grand Prix, rallies, the Monaco Yacht Show, and the final stage of the Tour de France.
The DPRN’s responsibilities include controlling all radio equipment, checking wireless devices, and guaranteeing the availability of allocated frequencies in real-time. This includes managing on-board cameras, walkie-talkie communications, ground reporting, and security vehicle radios.
Beyond event-specific duties, the DPRN also plans and coordinates frequencies for third parties year-round. This involves collaboration with public and private partners, covering Monegasque flagged boats, aircraft, building managers, Monegasque DTT and RNT, FM radio, and mobile telephony.
The DPRN’s efforts ensure the smooth operation of communication systems, maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the radio frequency spectrum during the world’s largest sporting event.
