AS Monaco have confirmed that promising young striker Malamine Efekele, aged 19, will be rejoining their satellite club, Cercle Brugge, on a season-long loan deal.
Given the fierce competition for the forward positions at Monaco, with established stars like Wissam Ben Yedder, Folarin Balogun, and Breel Embolo ahead of him, Efekele’s chances of breaking into the first team were extremely limited. The talented Diagonale academy product didn’t make a single appearance for Les Monégasques last season, prompting his initial loan move to Cercle Brugge in Belgium—a common pathway for Monaco’s young talents.
During his loan spell at Cercle Brugge, Efekele gained valuable game time, making 10 appearances and scoring once. As Monaco continue their search for additional striking options, reportedly targeting FC Metz’s Georges Mikautadze, it became clear that Efekele’s opportunities for first-team action would remain restricted if he stayed in the Principality.
In light of this, the decision was made to allow Efekele to continue his development at Cercle Brugge. This move not only promises regular playing time but also gives the young striker the exciting opportunity to compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League. It’s worth noting that no purchase option is included in this loan agreement.
Efekele’s return to Belgium is anticipated to be a pivotal step in his growth as a professional footballer, and AS Monaco will be keenly observing his progress throughout the season.
